Former school worker faces additional charges for sexual abuse

Schools are supposed to provide a safe and comforting environment for children of all ages and backgrounds. Sadly, a former school health aide created the opposite effect for several young children in New Mexico. He was originally arrested in July 2021 on allegations of molesting a young boy, but authorities filed 10 additional charges involving allegations of sexual abuse against others in Dec. 2021.

Abuse of his position

The 30-year-old former school health aide allegedly abused his position working in proximity to children. He was still working in schools up until April 2021, when he resigned after a co-worker discovered he was in a locked room with a young boy on his lap. The boy’s mother was the one who contacted police about the incident, prompting an investigation.

The investigation is said to have uncovered a terrifying trail of abuse. The man allegedly sexually abused a number of young boys at various schools where he worked from 2012 to 2020, and at least one other boy who he knew through his religious congregation. According to that young boy, abuse regularly took place in the man’s:

  • Car
  • Home
  • Nurse’s office at school

Dealing with the aftermath of sexual abuse is often a traumatizing experience for victims. Regardless of age, all victims deserve dignity and compassion moving forward, which often goes arm and arm in finding justice against their abuser. While this can be a complicated path forward, a kind and compassionate attorney who is well-versed in New Mexico state law may be able to provide essential guidance.
